In Bend, Oregon, a tense incident unfolded on Thursday night near Third Street and Reed Market Road. A 48-year-old Bend woman found herself in a terrifying situation when an unknown man pulled a gun and forced her out of her parked car. She managed to flee, taking her keys but leaving her cellphone behind.

Thanking Law Enforcement Partners

Bend Police, with the help of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police, worked tirelessly to bring the suspect to justice. Their combined efforts led to the successful location and arrest of the 24-year-old suspect who had recently arrived in Bend from Klamath Falls.

Details of the Incident

Around 7:25 p.m., police received a 911 call about the armed carjacking. When they arrived, they spoke to the victim who provided a detailed description of the suspect. Officers, including drone operators and K-9 Billy and his partner, began an extensive search. After a while, the victim's phone was found in the nearby McDonald's parking lot. Around 8:25 p.m., an officer located the suspect in the parking lot of AutoZone Auto Parts in the 1300 block of South Highway 97. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Deschutes County Jail on suspicion of various serious crimes such as first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, and pointing a firearm at another. The gun remains unaccounted for.
